Sarel Petrus

My works are trophies for the lives of others, even though their stories are unknown to me. These unknown stories create spaces for us to fill in our own stories and they thus become metaphors for our own memories and emotions
South African sculptor Sarel Petrus creates bronze and wood works that explore the hidden links between human life and nature. Inspired by his journeys into wild landscapes and urban spaces, Petrus transforms found objects and natural forms into sculptural metaphors of memory and emotion.

A graduate of the Tshwane (Pretoria) University of Technology and former assistant to acclaimed sculptor Guy du Toit, Petrus has exhibited widely, earning recognition as a Top 10 ABSA L’Atelier finalist  and Thami Mnyele Sculpture Merit Award winner.

His works invite viewers to discover their own stories in the echoes of forgotten ones.
